Our elder years are feared in modern culture as a useless time of decay and decline. We are encouraged to stay young forever. What if, instead, we viewed elderhood as a rich stage of human development? What if aging has essential gifts invisible to our aging-phobic culture? This 8-week course is based on such a liberating view. Topics will include reviewing our lives and harvesting our hard-won wisdom; discerning the unique character that has worn itself into our ripening souls; playing elder roles such as mentor, peace-maker, counsellor, and social visionary; increasing a connection with the natural world as part of elder spiritual development; and making a conscious relationship with illness and dying. Whether you are approaching your senior years or are well-ensconced in them, this course will help you deepen them into truly elder years.
This course launches my Eastern Forest Elder School. Other courses that I offer through the Yoga Connection--including Intro to Buddhist Psychology (Parts 1 and 2), Intro to Ecopsychology, and Giving Psychotherapy Away--are also part of the School. New courses will be added in the future as the School develops.
